biography

Me, James Allendale Mathias. Hmmm, what about me, let’s see. I’m forever married to an absolutely wonderful woman with whom I’ve fathered and help care for three amazing boys.

I’m an artist, writer and web designer/developer from Idaho, by way of Oregon, by way of Arizona, by way of California. I’ve all over the West Coast, but I like to consider myself a Pacific North-westerner and primarily an Oregonian—Go Ducks!

Our family includes two cats (Trinity Marie and Dali Salvadora), an apricot pug (Dominus King), a Shih Tzu/Chihuahua mix (Temperance Joy), two fish (Sucky McSuckerton, Kat) and we miss our rats (Doyle (2005–2007) and Spike (2005–2006)).

For the last year and a half, I’ve been involved in the long process of losing weight. So far, I've lost one-hundred and twenty-six pounds overall and have about seventy or so pounds left to lose. For me it's about getting healthy and fit through proper exercise habits and by practicing eating correctly.

I lost my father—he’s alive I just can’t see him. I was molested as a young child and I struggle with that still. Overall my life has been ups and downs—good and bad. But, it’s all been my life. And I would not change a single thing about it.

What about leihu, dude?

Here at leihu, I talk about movies, music, gaming, art, life and general crap.

The name leihu is the combination of two english pronunciations for Chinese symbols (kanji), broken down it’s lei (leigh) for thunder and hu (who) for tiger.

I came up with the name one night while brain-storming for a web-site name with my wife, the best idea was jamGraphix. Needless to say it was utter crap.

Being a Buddhist, I kind of follow Chinese astrology, in that philosophy I’m a tiger born in 1974—coincidentally, my eldest son is also a tiger born in 1998 almost exactly twenty-four years apart only one month and one day difference—I looked up tiger in my Chinese Kanji Reference Dictionary (what you don't have one?) and right there next to tiger was thunder or lei and they sounded great together, and thus leihu was born.

* Gyurme Dorje is James’ “Dharma Name” as given him by the Venerable Gyatrul Rinpoche, it’s meaning is "The indestructable union between method and wisdom.

** Buddhism suggests that one should not refuse to eat any food served to him, as not to offend your host. In these rare occasions James will eat beef or pork, but he never prepares it for himself and most people that cook for him respect his beliefs.

* James competed as a red belt rank in Arizona, as gold belts were not allowed to compete, and his teacher felt he was too natural a fighter to not compete at all.

** Although James is nearly six foot seven inches tall and good at basketball, he is very white when it comes to jumping, and can only dunk on a 9 foot hoop.
