Oh No Tetris!
imagined by: James Mathias
OK, so about 4 years ago I set the high score on my personal copy of Gameboy Tetris DX in Marathon mode with a score of 4,785,838 (yes that’s 4 million plus) points. I felt great about it, I’d worked hard to make that goal. I thought it was quite good, and was assured that it was by comments received when casually telling people of my feat. Comments like… “What the hell?!?” and “No damn way, crazy!”, and these are from people whom I showed the stored score on my Gameboy to personally.
I’ve always thought it was a very high score, but I had no idea. About two weeks ago I stumbled upon a web-site with official high scores for the Tetris Gameboy DX version, and the highest recorded and officially confirmed score is 593,286, which my score decimates by over 3.5 million points. This would be good enough for anyone to say AH-HA! I have something very special here.
Not for me however, for me I took it as a challenge to myself to shatter my 4 year old standing record of 4,785,838 points.
So I worked on it for the last two weeks continuously frustrating myself trying to accomplish my new goal of hitting 5 million plus… until that is today. Today I officially broke my 4 year old record by almost 2 million points.
My new record, which I think I can safely say is quite ridiculously high, and may even be–dare I say–a world record, as I cannot find anything to the contrary online or off. The highest claimed, unconfirmed score I could find was “1,070,171” and that person also claimed to have been on level “40 something” with “1200 lines”. And anyone whose played Gameboy Tetris knows that it stops advancing levels at level 30, so level “40 something” is impossible.
I digress, back to the score, my new score: 6,737,071. Don’t believe it? well here’s a picture, still doubting it? Click for the larger size with my face, beware it is a large file (512K) or so.
OK, so any ways, that’s my score and that’s my proof.
If anyone can prove and find a higher score I’d like to hear about it. The score and proof has to be a Tetris Gameboy DX marathon score.
Thanks for reading, by the by I’ll be back in May with a new site and new content.

You really should contact Twin Galaxies. They are the de facto keepers of video game world records.

Dude, can you send me an autographed copy of the photo with you and the gameboy? That could be worth 10’s of dollars someday.

My wery first thaught when i read this was:, “There he goes. One of God’s own prototypes. Some kind of high powered mutant never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.” - Hunter S. Thompson
lol… props!!

VERY nice stuff. I know, as a gamer, how good it feels to set a record, then shatter that same record later. Congrats, shame that nothing like this can land a high-paying job.
Damn the world!

Ok, now i dont want to seem like someone that attempts to diminish another persons achievements- no matter what they be.
So congrats.
Would it be too rude of me to ask if you have ever be able to take advantage of your status as “ the undisputed king of tetris?”
