One-third the Man I Used to Be…
imagined by: James Mathias
I was/am having a tough day as far as weight loss and the whole lifestyle change is concerned. I have them occasionally, you know bad days, where I let my mind play tricks on me and I just feel down on myself, it might be this bug I caught making me feel run down.
In any case, I was looking through some older pics with Amy and I ran across a couple that caught my attention and then caused me to tear up a little, not so much tears of sorrow, but tears of empathy.
I didn’t recognize the man in the photos, but I felt sorry for him, he looks uncomfortable—he was.
So I decided to put on the same sweatshirt from that day back in Oct 2005—I couldn’t do the shorts, cause they are 15 inches too big now, but the sweat shirt is a good illustration.
Then I compared the photos side by side, and realized that I’m doing good, bad day or not, I’m getting there, and I’m doing it right. So please enjoy the following pics, as I think they illustrate something about my character that is hard to put in words.

I sure know how to fill out some clothes.

Apparently, filled out all the way around, mmm, good work Jim.

As you can see, I’ve lost about a third of that guy above, it feels good!

Another good illustration of this shirts new fit.
Thanks for hearing me out, I feel much better now.

I’m proud of what you’ve done. You’re an amazing person James, don’t ever let things like this get you down.

Thanks Kennedy, I try to keep my head up, and for the most part I do. But I do get my days, and that’s OK too.

You are the only man I’ve ever given my heart to and I’m so glad I did! You inspire me to make my life better and you have really done an excellent job at losing weight and regaining the real you. Keep your head up and keep smiling, and know that I’m right here beside you, always!

Amazing James. There will be good days and bad but this proves even the bad days aren’t really worth a second thought in the bigger picture. Keep up the good work.

It is so awesome, James. You have done something that some people only talk about doing, but never build up the strengh to do it. I am very proud of you. This is my first year since I was 13 or so of not smoking cigarettes. It is a battle to change your evil ways sometimes, isn’t it? But your boys (are) will be so proud of you when they totally understand what you have done…

Thanks Rich, it is a battle in a lot of ways. I know my sons will be proud, they already understand the reasons for my life changes, and in fact want to follow me as much as possible. Which is a good sign I’m leading them by example, which is something as a Father we should all do.

I think it goes without saying that I think you are one of the most inspirational people I’ve ever come to know.
Your continued effort in this battle is contagious.
My heart goes out to that man for I once knew a man that had very much the same feelings. May those two men never show their faces ’round here anymore.

It does, but still nice to hear.
The man in the first photos won’t be ’round here ever again, he’s not welcome.

That is what I call determination. I can see that your are type of man who sets his goal and goes for it. Amazing as your site! Congrats. Keep going. Nothing will stop you.

Thanks Lewro.
I do try to stick with things I start, but like anyone else I do have my failings. But the end goal is usually some form of success.

Huge congratulations and the pictures show it so amazingly. I’m watching all of you on the diet and seeing such great successes.
Yes, the low times are hard and then you just have to muster. I still fluctuate - never will back up to what I was - and as a result a check has to be made and things changed. You’ve made such progress consider yourself receiving a cyber hug and big pat on a not so big back.

Thank you sir, I am proud. It’s hard to explain, I don’t get down on myself, about it, I just some days have a bad day and it incorporates the lifestyle change making the whole thing feel weird. But it normally last only a day or a few hours. I always feel better later, and things like this post help that along as well.

GREAT JOB!
I am disappointed in the loss of the super sweet beard though….
LOL.
You look fantastic!

Thank you sister. The beard has stayed fairly short since 2005, the big beard novelty wears off fast.
