6pins has launched
imagined by: James Mathias
Last night, David from Ilovedigit.com launched his new baby—that has been in the development pipeline for a long while—the 6pins community for web designers and developers.
I signed up last night and took a look around, it’s based on the vBulletin forum software but has been customized heavily both visually and functionally. I’ve gathered from my journeys that the idea behind the site is to give web-types a place to gather and discuss their day to day and of course network with each other.
The site includes obvious features common to forum sites, but also has an ease of use that seems a step above the rest, the design is clean and simple giving it a easy on the eyes feel.
6pins is already fairly active, and I hope to see it continue to rise in popularity.
They have—or are going to have—a podcast about web development and design. I hope to listen to the first episode soon. They have a teaser-cast up but it’s really just an introduction to the podcast not the podcast itself. The sound quality on the teaser is a little wobbly, but it loaded really fast, so that’s a trade off I can live with.
I’m told there will be new features added at a fairly rapid pace, so as the membership grows so will the functionality.
Overall I’m impressed with the site and the people using and running it thus far.
A hearty and sincere good work goes out to David and company!
Go check them out and sign up if your a web-arch-type!
PS: I posted this here as opposed to TAO as right now leihu has a larger readership, and I wanted more folks to see this.

The community is growing already. I’m excited for David. He’s clearly put a lot of work into the site.

Woohoo! Thanks for the kind words, James. In the coming couple of weeks we are adding a video how-to section as well.
I hope everyone checks 6pins out. If anyone has any suggestions please feel free to contact me through 6pins or my blog.
Again, thanks for the mention!

Awesome… very nice design too… Speaking of designs… I just realized yesturday that you are letting your readers pick a default design for your blog… so guess which one I picked? haha.
Yeah, he pink one. It’s my favorite. =)

Well, let’s hope it doesn’t turn into another TFI / TBS / OneCommune.
I signed up and plan on posting.

What does TFI and TBS stand for? I’m not familiar with those. It’s probably the abbreviations throwing me off.

The Forum Insider and The Bear Spot. They primarily focused on forum software and showed much promise at first, but, eventually, they all were overcome by infighting and quickly lost their appeal. I was a very active member of TFI and TBS, too. How disappointing.
I’ve posted a bit and read through the other topics and it seems like a promising community!
