Bryce Update III
imagined by: James Mathias
So this morning we received the results from the EEG test Bryce had on the 27th of December.
The results were 100% normal. Both for awake and asleep states. No abnormalities, none.
What does this mean?
Well, it means the doctor’s whom I now I owe over five-thousand dollars to have no idea what caused my five year old son to have a seizure on the 12th of December.
It also means that he doesn’t have epilepsy or any other brain disorder. It means that he most likely had a one time seizure episode that he will—like many others—tell folks about when he’s older. It means he’s blessed to have had so many people praying for him.
The pediatrician, says we can take steps and have a consultation with a pediatric neurologist to see what advice he may have. But, she said it would boil down to him advising us one of two ways; medication or wait and watch.
Medication, is not a route I would like to go. Firstly, what would they medicate him for? They have no idea what caused the seizure. Secondly, I’ve read that medication can change the demeanor of the person taking it, to me that is a giant red flag.
Amy and I are still discussing what to do next, but we will probably not go see the specialist, since it’s quite clear he won’t have any new information, which will cost even more to confirm.
Again, to all. Thank you from the bottom of our collective Mathias heart. Your prayers, well wishes and kindnesses have gotten us through one of the most difficult times we’ve had as a family. I love you all.

I’m sorry this is such a frustrating situation for you guys. But I’m glad everything checked out okay. I have a feeling this was a one time event. Love you guys.

I’m so glad to hear that everything came back normal. I know how you must feel not getting any real answers, that is always a bit disheartening, but at least the huge worry is past and you have the results. Just keep an eye on the little guy like I know you will!

Good logic James, sure seems hard for the doctor to medicate a kid about whom he knows nothing conclusive! Glad to hear he’s OK, sorry to hear about the large bill. Been there myself.
My advice is to negotiate with the providers, the first question being “can you give me a discount” and then working out payment plans so you can manage the bill. I was surprised that one provider I had a bill with reduced it about 10% when I asked nicely.

James, i am so happy that all is well. I hope that this is just an isolated event and you will never have to deal with it again.

Very glad to hear that the tests came back normal, still unsettling to not know the cause, but it sure sounds like it was a one time incident.

Sorry I am just now finding out about all this. I am glad your son is doing well. I know of a doctor out here who is a Neurologist as well but he is a Chiropractor. He has been helping me with my injury. I did not want surgery. I just saw him late last night. I have a problem with reading and gross motor skills. He is giving me exercises to help various parts of my brain to develop more equally. Maybe he could give you some exercises for your son? He is super kind and really cares about his patients. I don’t know if you even need to come out to see him but maybe he would be willing to talk with you on the phone? I don’t know if any of this helps? I wish I could do more for you.
