A Father’s Day

imagined by: James Mathias

Slept in until eleven.

Was awoken gently by my wife, “Hey, honey it’s breakfast time” To the kitchen I stumbled half in a daze still sleepy (I was up late the night before) on the table before me, my favorite, peanut-butter french toast, my eldest’s idea, and my wife’s cooking. Let me say here, and I’m sorry mom, but Amy’s cooking is sooo good. She is insecure about her meals, but they’ve never failed to please my stomach and taste buds alike.

What’s also waiting for me at the table? Well homemade cards from my two boys, 3 from Liam, and 2 from Bryce. These made me cry, tears of love and happiness, but tears none-the-less. Two cards from Amy, one at breakfast and one on my desk, cause she knew I’d check my work mail first thing, and she was right. Also tucked in the second card on my desk was a hilarious “Family Circle”, punch line. “Daddy wants peace and quiet? What kind of present is that?” Oh man, it was exactly right. The boys were very good for me today, and told me that they loved me in more ways than one. I love being a father more than anything else in my life. It is a privilege, honor, and great responsibility I cherish it deeply, and I am proud that my boys chose myself and their mum to be their parents in this life. Additionally, my sons got me a great hat, it says “Dad & Co.” on it, I love it, regardless of that new verizon commercial, I think it means a lot when your 6 and 3 year old know you well enough to know you would love to have a new hat, especially one that states something closer to your heart than some random sports team. Good boys I have.

After breakfast and some relaxation we went to the store, then the park to have a picnic. I wore my hat, and the boys played soccer. Then we went for a walk, but it was so late in the day that it was very hot, and by the end of the walk we were close to passing out. I was rewarded and refreshed by a delicious slurpee.

Back home, and more relaxation, and I watched some TV, a rare occasion for me these days, but I enjoyed it. Then dinner. Cooked by Amy and the Boys. Chicken Toes (Liam), Potatoes & Apples (Bryce), Apple Slices with Caramel Peanut-Butter Dip, Garlic Bread (Amy), Grape Juice (Juicy Juice), and Rolled Crunchy Ice Cream for dessert (Amy). Oh, how my family loves me.

I want to say thank you to Amy, Liam and Bryce for making me feel loved and important on this random day in June. Everything I do I do it for you guys, and I try my best to be a “there” dad, and I hope it shows as much every day as it did today.

I love you guys.

You know the score, keep it clean and on topic. “Spammers” & “trolls” are decimated on sight.

Miss Daze

Oh my. I’ve become far too much of a cynic. I didn’t know guys like you who honored their wives and children actually existed in real life. They are lucky to have you and you are lucky to have them.

What on earth of chicken toes? or should I ask?

James Mathias

They are similar to chicken fingers, but they are breaded with corn flakes and baked instead of batter and fried.

They are absolutely delicious!

yes, I love and honor my family. Although I’m the lucky one.

Anonymous - Anon to you James

Don’t listen to Sis James, you don’t want her nibbling on your toes ESPECIALLY on Fathers’ Day.

In regards to guys honoring their wives and children, I have one myself and he lives to serve me! I will show him this post (Arn’t I nice?) on Fathers’ Day down in OZ, come September (July is too random) just to instill what is expected of him. Also, you truly do have a wonderful family smile

Hi Mrs Mathias, you are truly blessed smile

isay

well, i was touched almost in tears upon reading your blog—(actually, i really have been crying before going in front of the computer)your wife is very good in convincing your boys about not being so noisy–and my, i miss chicken toes or is it just the same with chicken feet?

A.

James my love, you’re welcome. You deserve every nice thing in this world! I’m glad you enjoyed your day. I can’t help but think the world of you, you are a great daddy. However, you will have to do the dishes today, no special treatment! smile

James Mathias

John

James - Steve sent me to give you some luv, make you even more popular, and blush. I am very glad you had a wonderful Father’s Day because such a talented artist as yourself deserves it! PLUS lots of luv from your Fans! AND those green and blue eyes are very cute! A. is a lucky woman!!! In case you haven’t noticed, I have been visiting your blog for a very long time and commenting - sorry if I confused you but I only wear a skirt in my icon, and at weddings in real life (more than once now). This is to avoid such gender confusion that can happen when Anonymous. We all LUV you from Steve’s house. XOXO

James Mathias

Anon, thanks, I think… still not sure what to make of you.

Anonymous - Anon to you James

Woops, slip of the keys ….
I STILL LOVE YOU JAMES, even though you think I am laughing at you. It is common for Ozzies to laugh WITH you, but can sometimes seem like we might be laughing at you. Your stories in particular have tickled my funny bone and I was just playing. I also love your artwork. Sorry for any confusion …

Anonymous - Anon to you James

How much more begging and loving, and making you more popular, and making you blush … do you want?

Anonymous - Anon to you James

Do you believe I am sincere now I have submitted an entry for your Alternate Friday Topic?

(So we can stop all this silliness and be friends?) So be careful with your answer smile

James Mathias

I don’t recall doing anything to indicate I disliked you, so I’m not sure what I am supposed to say or do.

Anonymous - Anon to you James

Does “Anon, thanks, I think… still not sure what to make of you.” ring a bell?

Do and say nothing, just bask in the glory of having so many readers loving you smile

James Mathias

I just mean you come on real strong, but I don’t dislike you, I’m just a naturally shy fellow, ask me wife, she tell you.

Anonymous - Anon to you James

That is a problem of mine sad That is why most don’t notice I am wearing a skirt and think I am a boy - oh and my art isn’t very lady-like either sad

I particularly like your wife’s comment “However, you will have to do the dishes today, no special treatment!” Particularly on Father’s Day - Yay Mrs Mathias!! So there is no need to ask about you being naturally shy - I believe you smile OXO

Miss Daze

Hi, James. Hope everything is better. I’m sorry if your feelings were hurt yesterday. I tried explaining things, even using myself as an example, but I don’t know if you read it. Actually, it is a compliment to be including in our teasing because it means we like you and feel comfortable around you. Again, sorry you didn’t understand. I guess we should have given you a chance to warm up to us first. Then attack!

You are a very sweet guy, very Grizzly Adams like (which is NOT an insult) and hope there are no hard feelings.

Ali Islami

Great post, makes me look forward to being a dad.

James Mathias

Thanks Miss Daze, I am honored to be in the “group”.

Ali, thanks. It is the most wonderful and nerve racking and scary and fun and crazy thing you can ever do.

A.

mostly crazy! smile

Anonymous - Anon to you James

Are you up in the middle of the crazy night Mrs Mathias? Know all about it smile

A.

No, just up at the crack of dawn with our boys and then up till midnight with my man. And all the in between is the crazy part. smile

Anonymous - Anon to you James

I have two boys that are old enough to get themselves to school in the morning, and be mice on Sundays. Luckily Husband drops well before midnight - but yes the rest IS crazy smile
